Tropical fruits are popularly grown in tropical climates. Mango, pineapple, and banana are tropical fruits most people are familiar with, but there are many more, less well known that have their own unique flavours and qualities that you could try.

Jackfruits are very versatile tropical fruits. In western countries, many people will find this fruit used in vegetarian dishes as a kind of vegetarian beef.
Why is it called vegetarian beef? Because the structure of jackfruit flesh has the same consistency of beef. Additionally, according to scientific research, the nutritional content of jackfruit is no less than beef.
The jackfruit tree belongs to a small wooden tree that grows 8 to 15 m high. The tree bears fruit after 3 years of age and its fruit is a complex, edible fruit. Jackfruit is considered to be the largest ripe fruit tree of any fruit tree species.
Jackfruit has commercial value. Each fruit is quite large, oval in size 30–60 cm x 20-30 cm. The jackfruit shell is rough, with small spines. Jackfruit bears fruit around mid-spring and ripens in late summer (July-August).
Today, you can find fresh jackfruit in major supermarkets, or canned products. Dried jackfruit is also a very delicious snack that you should try.
Rambutan is in the same family with lychee and longan and is very similar in characteristics, the edible part is the pulp (flesh) and the taste is the same. Many tourists call this fruit a “hairy lytchee”. Rambutans have a red skin surrounded by soft spines. Gently pull open the outer hard skin, to reveal sweet white flesh, and light brown seeds.
Rambutan is a cultivar that originated in Southeast Asia. Rambutan trees can be 8 to 10 m tall, with single leaves, oval leaf blades, pointed leaf tips and tails. Small leaves are light green, dark green when old.
Rambutan is a species of fruit tree that is either eaten fresh, or canned in various forms, for storage or for export. Rambutan seeds have a high oil content, so they are also used to make cooking oils or soaps. Rambutan plants and roots can also be used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and coloring.
Durian is considered the king of tropical fruits in Asia. But, the scent of durian produces reactions ranging from fascination to intense disgust. It has been described as having the smell of rotten onion, resin or sewage. Due to the long-lasting smell of the durian, it is forbidden to take them into some hotels, or to carry them on public transport in Southeast Asia.
Durian trees can be up to 40 meters tall. The leaves are always green, symmetrical elliptical to oblong shape from 10–18 cm. Flowers bloom in clusters of 3-30 on large branches and stems, each with calyx and 5 (rarely 4 or 6) petals.
Durian has a large stalk, the fruit has a unique odor and the bark is spiky. The fruit is oval to round in shape, with a length of 30 centimeters (12 in) and a diameter of 15 centimeters (6 in), and a weight of 1 to 5 kg. The fruit’s flesh or “rice” is usually light yellow in color.
If the durian is an acquired taste, mangosteen is the most popular and Queen of tropical fruits. The sweet and mildly sour taste of this fruit is delicious and healthy.
The tree grows to about 6 to 25 m high. The fruit, when ripe, has a thick outer shell, dark purple in color, and inedible peel. The flesh of the fruit is ivory white, succulent, slightly fibrous and divided into several sections, with a sweet and sour taste and an attractive aroma. The seeds are almond shaped and small in size.
Mangosteen fruits are not only a delicious tropical fruits, but also used in dyeing fabric and natural medicines.
Dragon fruit is one of the tropical fruits that has an eye-catching pink color, but also has a sweet and slightly sharp taste that is easy to eat. Dragon fruit trees are grown mainly for their fruit. (Not to be confused with a few species of cactus with the same name)
