best way to explore Hochiminh city

Hi! i am Thi - local guide in Vietnam. Please, keep in touch with Sagomeko & make your trip better with local tour-guides'advises. Cheers !

Saigon waterbus is a new way for you to explore the whole city. From Nguyen Hue pedestrian street going forward to Saigon River, you will see a bustling river with boats, ships, and water-hyacinths floating by. The 250 km long river flows along with Saigon to the East Sea and played a significant role in the foundation and development of Saigon from the French Colony. You could find out about Saigon Now & Then, the growth of this vibrant city.

A very new 5-star waterbus

The Saigon Waterbus has been inaugurated on 25/11 and officially operated for it’s first passengers on Sunday 26/11. First Line 01 starts from Bach Dang Pier (District 1, HO Chi Minh City) crossing 4 terminals and finishes at Linh Dong Pier, Thu Duc District. The journey takes more 30 minutes long for approximately 11km. So at this pace you can really sit back and enjoy the views.
Capacity of the waterbus is 75 passengers. Every day it departs from Bachdang pier at 7:30 am – 18:00 pm and departs from Linhdong at 6:30 – 16:00. Therefore, I do recommend you visit in the mornings.

How to get to the Saigon waterbus station

If you stay in District 1, you could walk or take a Vinasun Taxi 38272727 ( must have a tablet on the dashboard and will show you a map & price ) to Bạch Đằng Waterbus Station – 10B Tôn Đức thắng street, district 1, Hochiminh city.

There is a bus routine No.44, which starts from Bến Thành market – Bình Quới Ferry, just in case you take the last waterbus from BachDang at 18:00 PM
What should you prepare for your visit on the Saigon River
You should bring your own sunblock, water & drinks or you can buy drinks there with 2-4 USD ( above 40.000 VND)
It moves pretty slowly & smoothly, so you don’t need to bring travel sickness tablets.
Please take a look at the time-table very carefully.

Getting Saigon waterbus

Sagomeko advice: what should we prepare for our visit on the Saigon River. We recommend that you should come earlier at least 30 minutes before you wish to travel, to buy tickets & it is very important to buy return tickets at the Saigon waterbus Ticket Office. Keep calm, there may be a short wait &use your time to take photos at the station. Normally, it gets crowded on Saturday & Sunday because it is very new for local people as well, or you like to connect to the locals.
Try to get a seat at the back of the boat. This way you can see the whole downtown of Saigon such as the Bitexco Financial Tower, The very colonial Majestic Hotel, Tran Hung dao statue, and the green & peaceful District 2, a new icon the Vincom Landmark 81 … and now and then, the contrast of Saigon – Hochiminh city is shown.

Overall review about Saigon waterbus

Obviously, the Saigon waterbus is very nice, comfortable, and a really reasonable price. But it is public transportation, so it will be crowded at weekends and public holidays. You do have other choices, you could book a speedboat to explore these other districts such as district 4, 7  & Cuchi tunnels, obviously with different prices.

I hope this review helps you to have a nice day in Saigon. More & more reviews by will be released. If you have a nice journey by using our tip please let us know & share them to your friends.

Hi Everyone, I’m Kathy, T’s friend in the UK. I’m like Alexa, only I sometimes don’t always do as I’m told. T is very modest so he’d never put it on his website, but he has received an award from Audley Travel in May 2019 as one of the best tour guides in Vietnam. So rest assured this advice on his site comes from a wealth of experience. You are in safe hands! Read on and enjoy your trip to Saigon. It’s one of my favourite places in the world. I hope you like it too 🙂
